51,000 reasons to back the pink dog! $51,000 raised from the Go the Pink Dog! campaign for the McGrath Foundation

March 2010

The McGrath Foundation will receive $51,000 courtesy of the ‘Go The Pink Dog!' campaign, which ran throughout February.

Every time a greyhound wearing the pink number 8 rug won a Victorian greyhound race during February, Greyhound Racing Victoria and Tabcorp donated $500 towards the McGrath Foundation.

Last night's Geelong greyhound race meeting was the last of the campaign, and it produced four pink number 8 winners on the night, taking the monthly total up to 102.

Executive Director of the McGrath Foundation, Tracy Bevan, was thrilled by the overall success of the Go the Pink Dog campaign.

"I'm just blown away that $51,000 has been raised from the Go the Pink Dog campaign.  The best part is that all the money raised will help fund additional McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia as well as reminding young women about the importance of breast awareness.

"With the pink dog winning 102 races, it just goes to show that next time you're at the track, go the pink dog!" said Tracy.

Anthony Laye Presents His Magical Mind Reading Show "Magic for McGrath"

February 2010

Magician, Anthony Laye, together with his wife Nicola, will be travelling around Australia with the aim of raising over $150,000 for the McGrath Foundation by performing 40 mind reading shows in just 40 nights.

The non-stop journey will start in Wollongong, NSW, on 20th February and will finish on the 31st March in Cairns, Queensland. Anthony and Nicola will travel through New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia to perform a truly magical mind reading show in support of the McGrath Foundation.

Founded in 2005, by Jane McGrath and her cricketing husband Glenn, the McGrath Foundation aims to raise funds to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia. The McGrath Foundation also works to increase breast awareness among young Australian women.

Anthony and Nicola decided to support the McGrath Foundation, and their efforts to support women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families through the funding of McGrath Breast Care Nurses, after Anthony witnessed the struggle of a close friend with breast cancer.

“I was living in England at the time, my friend had just been diagnosed with breast cancer, and so I flew to Warrnambool for a few weeks to lend support. I was shocked to see a once fit and active lady suddenly crippled by the effects of breast cancer. The one thing that stood out in all of this, was the amazing job the breast care nurses were doing. All I can wish is that a cure is found, until that time, however, women affected by breast cancer need the help and support of McGrath Breast Care Nurses,” said Anthony.

MAGIC FOR MCGRATH is not your average magic show. The upbeat and interactive show is filled with magic that no one could ever expect. Tickets are only $15. Don’t miss out – visit www.magicformcgrath.com.au

Tyre dealers go pink in support of the McGrath Foundation

February 2010

The blokey world of tyre retailing is set to take on a particularly pink and feminine hue with a major fundraising initiative for the McGrath Foundation on February 19.

Leading Tyre manufacturer Kumho has thrown further support behind the McGrath Foundation, in addition to their generous $100,000 donation, with a novel fundraising initiative involving the company's network of tyre dealers around the country on Pink Fitters Day, February 19.

Kumho tyre dealer staff and fitters around the country will don special pink shirts for the day as a sign of their support for the McGrath Foundation and the vital work it is doing in caring for women with breast cancer and their families through access to McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia as well as increasing breast awareness amongst young Australian women.

Every Kumho tyre dealer staff member who dons a pink shirt on February 19 will help donate $9 to the McGrath Foundation, with a target to raise $15,000 from the day.

According to Kumho Tyre's marketing manager, David Basha, the tyre industry is a blokey business, but there is a groundswell of support for the fundraising day, which will see dealer staff displaying a bit of pink in their showrooms in support of the McGrath Foundation.

"It indicates that people in the tyre industry understand that breast cancer, as Glenn McGrath always says, doesn't just affect women - it affects families," said David Basha.

Sydney tyre dealer Wilpower Tyres in Revesby is one of the many Kumho tyre outlets that is embracing Pink Fitters Day.

Uniquely, Wilpower Tyres is owned and run by women and proprietor Jenny Martin says the Kumho initiative is one that has found real support with tyre dealers around the country. It is the only tyre service in Australia owned and completely staffed by women.

"The tyre business is sometimes a pretty challenging and tough work environment and there is usually not a lot of pink in our day-to-day operations, which will only serve to further underline the importance of this fundraising initiative," said Jenny Martin.

"Our team is fully behind it and I know all the guys at Kumho dealerships are keen to support Pink Fitters Day and the McGrath Foundation."

Kumho Australia's managing director, Edmund Cho, said the initiative was part of the tyre makers '100,000 Good Reasons' program, which will deliver $100,000 to the McGrath Foundation in 2010, and is in line with the company's efforts to contribute positively to communities in which it does business all across the world.

"As a tyre company, Kumho is committed to working hard to provide a substantial contribution to the betterment of people and society in general."

"Kumho has been marketing products in Australia for over 30 years and as a company we felt it was time to give back to the community," said Mr Cho.

"In Korea, our approach to corporate and social responsibility is described as "arum daun giup", which literally translated means 'beautiful company,'" said Mr Cho.

As part of its commitment to social responsibility, Kumho is using innovative technology to develop more environmentally friendly tyres.

Kumho's range of Aroma Technology tyres launched in 2009 give off a perfumed scent when the rubber compound is warmed up by road friction.

Tyre customers are urged to support Kumho's backing of the McGrath Foundation by visiting their local Kumho tyre dealer even if it is just to offer a word of support to the pink clad tyre fitters and consultants or for a safety check of their vehicle.

"We believe Pink Fitters Day will grow into a major annual event in the tyre industry as more and more tyre retailers come on board in years to come to support the McGrath Foundation and the great work it is doing to support women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families right across Australia," David Basha concluded.

Pink is the new red this Valentine's Day

February 2010

Motorists are being encouraged to buy their loved one a special gift this Valentines Day that will also help support those with breast cancer and raise funds for the McGrath Foundation – Pink Number Plates.

Acting Minister for Transport and Roads David Borger said pink plates - the highest selling coloured number plate in NSW – were a great gift idea.

"Valentine’s Day is a special day and this year we are encouraging people to show their love with pink number plates instead of buying the traditional gifts like roses or chocolates," Mr Borger said.

"This really is the gift that keeps on giving with a portion of the proceeds from each number plate sold going to the McGrath Foundation to support breast care nurses in regional New South Wales.

"So far the Pink Plates initiative has sold around 4,300 pink plates and raised around $91,000 for the McGrath Foundation and it would be great if motorists could help to increase this on Valentine’s Day this year."

Mr Borger said $15 from every pink plate sale and $50 for every prestige pink plate had been donated to the McGrath Foundation.

"It is also great to see that men are supporting the campaign, snapping up around 960 of the pink plates sold. I would encourage husbands and boyfriends to get behind this great cause and add a touch of pink to their loved ones car," Mr Borger said.

Paul Dennett from the RTA has purchased pink plates for his wife to support the worthy cause.

"My family has experienced the hardship of having someone diagnosed with breast cancer and to be able to do something like this is an easy way to make a difference," Mr Dennett said.

"I challenge all the men out there to not only buy these plates for Valentine’s Day but also `pink their rides’ to support this great cause."

Executive Director of the McGrath Foundation, Tracy Bevan, has been sporting her hot pink number plates for almost a year and thinks everyone should consider purchasing pink plates for their loved one.

"As a girly girl, I love pink as much as the next woman. We were so thrilled to have the RTA come on board and generously donate a portion of sales from their pink plates to the McGrath Foundation, so I just had to get them," she said.

"Pink is definitely the new red this Valentine’s Day. So, if you’re looking for a gift that is unique and stands out from the crowd, pink plates are it.

"Plus, the added bonus is that your gift will be making an actual difference to the lives of Australian women diagnosed with breast cancer, and their families, as well as reminding drivers to be breast aware."

Around 60 per cent of the customers who bought a pink plate chose to personalise it and some new combinations include 5WEET, PE66LE, BETT3R and S4R4H.

Changing your plates to pink is easy. You can keep the content of your plates but just re-style it to pink.

The RTA will be donating $15 to the McGrath Foundation from each set of customised pink plates sold and increase that donation to $50 per plate for anyone who purchases a set of handmade hot pink prestige plates. Due to popular demand, this offer has been extended until 30 June 2010.

Think Pink: Pink number plates campaign raises $91,000 for McGrath Foundation

January 2010

More than 4,300 NSW motorists have made the decision to ’go pink’ in support of the McGrath Foundation by purchasing hot pink number plates from the RTA. Premier Kristina Keneally joined Glenn McGrath at the 3 Mobile Cricket Test in Sydney today to announce the NSW Government will extend the popular ‘Pink Plates’ campaign until the end of June to raise even more funds for the McGrath Foundation’s worthwhile work.

The McGrath Foundation has already received $70,000 in funding from the NSW Government ’Pink Plates’ campaign. Premier Keneally today presented Glenn with a cheque for $21,000, collected from pink plate sales in November and December last year.

“Since April last year, more than $91,000 has been raised by NSW motorists who have chosen to purchase a pink plate,” Ms Keneally said. “This has been a hugely popular campaign in NSW. The NSW Government will continue to donate $15 for every pink plate sold and $50 for each prestige pink plate sold to the McGrath Foundation to help them continue their excellent work supporting women experiencing breast cancer – particularly in regional areas.

“I’d encourage motorists to think about adding a touch of pink to their vehicles. For most pink plates this involves a one-off payment and they are yours for life.”

Glenn McGrath was the first person in NSW to fit customised hot pink number plates to his vehicle, back in April last year. “I’m glad that the campaign has raised so much money for our Foundation,” he said.

“I am really thrilled that it will be extended so we can continue to support breast cancer sufferers in regional parts of the State. It is great to see so many motorists in New South Wales getting behind this initiative that also looks great on the vehicle.”
