The NSW Government has marked 100 years of number plates in NSW by announcing number plate charity partnerships with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and McGrath Foundation.

Minister for Roads David Borger said the partnerships will see $15 from the sale of all blue and pink plates and $50 from all prestige blue and pink plates donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and the McGrath Foundation respectively.

Mr Borger said overwhelming support for the RTA’s pink plates has seen more than 6,000 drivers pink their ride and support the McGrath Foundation and the funding of their McGrath Breast Care Nurses since the campaign was launched in April 2009.

“More than $120,000 has already been raised for the McGrath Foundation. It’s fantastic to see how much NSW motorists have really taken to the idea of pink plates and supporting the work of the Foundation,” Mr Borger said.

“The pink plate campaign was due to end on 30 June but the mass take-up of pink plates by NSW motorists resulted in the agreement being extended,” he said.

“I am really pleased to support the new partnership with the Prostate Cancer of Foundation Australia and the continuing partnership with the McGrath Foundation.

“I encourage people to invest in the pink and blue charity plates to support two very worthwhile causes that affect thousands of fellow Australians each year.”

Mr Borger said number plates have come a long way since their inception in 1910.

“NSW has had bicentennial plates, rugby league and union plates, metallic plates, coloured plates, Olympic Games plates and even Sydney Harbour Bridge shaped plates,” he said.

“We hope to see the pink plates continue to support the McGrath Foundation and we hope to have the blue plates generate equally impressive contributions for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.”
