With your help, no one misses out on care
On International Nurses Day 2022, the McGrath Foundation announced its commitment to fund 250 nurses by 2025 to coincide with the Foundation’s 20th anniversary, as we work towards our mission of ensuring no one goes through breast cancer without care.
To mark this occasion, the McGrath Foundation has partnered with acclaimed visual artist Sarah McCloskey to unveil a powerful homage to the 193 McGrath Breast Care Nurses caring for families impacted by breast cancer across Australia.
The mural in North Sydney represents the more than 20,000 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer each year, the 193 McGrath Breast Care Nurses caring for them today, and the 57 more required to reach our goal by 2025.
Behind the scenes
The powerful mural was designed and painted by acclaimed visual artist Sarah McCloskey and depicts McGrath Breast Care Nurse Joylene Fletcher and her patient Emily Quinlan.
Emily’s story
Emily, from Ballarat, was only 25 years old when a shock breast cancer diagnosis turned her world upside down. Working at the local kindergarten and enjoying time with friends and family, Emily was living life as any normal 25-year-old. With no family history of breast cancer or reason to suspect anything was amiss, it was the furthest thing from her mind.
