Our favourite time of year is just around the corner – cricket season, and with it comes our favourite moment of the season… the NRMA Insurance Pink Test! The colour and energy of the pink test is bought to life by our incredible Pink Army of volunteers, making for a truly unforgettable experience. Registrations are now open to be part of the atmosphere at the 2025 NRMA Insurance Pink Test. Here’s what some of our previous volunteers have had to say…
Melissa
“It a fabulous day! There’s a great feeling of camaraderie amongst the volunteers.”
Having volunteered at the Sydney Pink Test for two years, Melissa says there’s something addictive about the experience.
“Do it! You won’t regret it, and you’ll be back the following year as well,” she tells anything thinking of signing up.
Having been diagnosed with breast cancer herself in 2020, and as a joint coordinator of her local breast cancer support group, Melissa sees the vital care that McGrath Breast Cancer Nurses provide.
“We are lucky to supported by two wonderful McGrath nurses. We have new ladies all the time come through our group, and the McGrath nurses are such a wonderful support to them. And they continue to give advice to those of us post-treatment when needed – the side effects of breast cancer treatment can last a lifetime.”
Melissa, who volunteers with her friend Michelle, says one of her favourite things about being at the SCG for Pink Test is “knowing that I’m helping other people with breast cancer to get access to McGrath nurses. I also love when people share their stories with us as we walk around,” but her highlight is meeting the big man himself – our President and Founder, Glenn McGrath.
“My favourite memory would have to be Glenn McGrath stopping to take a selfie with Michelle and I!”
Maree
For first-time volunteer Maree, the decision to help raise money for the McGrath Foundation at the 2024 Pink Test was a deeply personal one.
Maree was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. She now works with breast cancer patients in a professional capacity in a hospital and community setting and has seen first-hand the impact a McGrath Breast Cancer Nurse makes.
“I really enjoyed the day. It was a great atmosphere,” she says. “It doesn’t take too much time of effort to give back to people in need and going through a difficult time.”
Maree volunteered by herself and was partnered with two other volunteers on the day.
“Meeting other volunteers, working as a team and having fun was my favourite memory,” she says of the experience.
“Everyone was so friendly and supportive. Volunteering is so rewarding and at the end of the day, you feel that you have made a personal contribution to a worthwhile cause.”
Phil
Phil volunteered for the Pink Test after his wife Margo was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2022.
“The support she received from her McGrath Breast Care Nurse Michiko was wonderful. It is such an important role, as they worked between my wife and the medical team.”
As a first-time volunteer, Phil says he encourages anyone to think about joining it to “give it a go”.
“It’s a fun day, and people at the Pink Test are quite generous and happy to be approached. It’s also very well organised and a great way to help raise awareness and support for people going through this time in the lives.
“And it’s just one day!”
