New research from Dry July Foundation has found 86% of Australians believe they would benefit from less alcohol in their lives and two thirds (67%) admit to being ‘sober curious’ and want to try an alcohol free period.
Satisfying their sober curiosity will benefit families impacted by breast cancer, with the McGrath Foundation proudly announcing it will benefit from funds raised through the 2021 Dry July campaign. McGrath Foundation is once again a major beneficiary of the Dry July Foundation as they help fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses who support families impacted by breast cancer across Australia.
This year represents the 14th Dry July campaign, where people across Australia pledge to give up alcohol for the month to raise funds for those affected by cancer. The campaign sees thousands go alcohol-free every year. And with Dry July research showing the number of people in Australia saying they are drinking more in the average week having doubled over the past 12 months, it couldn’t come at a better time.
This July, participants include members of the McGrath Foundation team, Glenn McGrath’s wife Sarah Leonardi-McGrath and several of our McGrath Breast Care Nurses.
McGrath Foundation CEO Holly Masters is extremely proud to be involved.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Dry July again this year to help fund our amazing McGrath Breast Care Nurses. This is the third year I have taken part and I am hoping to smash my fundraising goal from last year. We’re so appreciative of all the people who sign up, donate and get behind such a worthwhile initiative.”
“It’s been a tough year for everyone, but I think it has never been more important to take a break from alcohol and sign up for this year’s campaign.”
The money raised will go towards funding McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities around Australia. McGrath Breast Care Nurses provide invaluable physical and psycho-social support, from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment. They are also a crucial source of emotional support during what can be a very frightening time. It is through fundraising activities like Dry July that we are able to continue providing this vital service to families impact by breast cancer, for free.
