Urgently needed support for Hunter residents and their families in the Hunter experiencing breast cancer is here with the appointment of a second McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurse.
McGrath Greater Charitable Foundation Breast Care Nurse Helen Moore is on hand to make life that little bit easier for local families going through breast cancer, based at Calvary Mater Newcastle.
As a nurse of 27 years, Helen is dedicated to providing quality and compassionate care to local people experiencing breast cancer and their families.
‘I love being a McGrath Breast Care Nurse because it gives me a rare opportunity to work in a supportive, multidisciplinary team to provide the best possible care for our patients,’ Helen said.
Helen was originally a McGrath Breast Care Nurse in Gateshead, and she loved the experience so much that when the opportunity arose to jump in again, she took it.
‘I am very excited to be back in the role. I’m passionate about providing evidence-based information and support to people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer,’ she said
‘It is my goal to ensure that patients and families are aware and informed so I can provide them with timely, relevant support.’
Helen joins the Hunter’s other McGrath Breast Care Nurse Rebecca Chenery, who is based at Calvary Mater Newcastle to support families across Newcastle and the Hunter region.
‘The Hunter is such a supportive community; people really come together to support those diagnosed with breast cancer.’
Helen’s role is supported by $250,000 in funding from the Greater Charitable Foundation to ensure that the people of the Hunter region diagnosed with breast cancer would have improved outcomes.
Greater Charitable Foundation CEO Anne Long said the Foundation recognised a second breast care nurse for the region was urgently needed.
‘McGrath Breast Care Nurses deliver on our mission to improve life outcomes for families and communities,’ Anne said.
McGrath Foundation Ambassador and Director Tracy Bevan said, ‘We’re thrilled to welcome Helen back to the McGrath Foundation family.
‘It is wonderful to know that our hard-working McGrath Breast Care Nurses are helping such a wide variety of families who can really benefit from an advocate, and friend to support them through this journey.’
Since 2005, the McGrath Foundation has supported more than 50,000 families experiencing breast cancer. Currently, there are 117 McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia.
The Greater Charitable Foundation funding was provided in 2016 out of almost $1M in funding from the profits of Greater Bank. The Greater Charitable Foundation is currently calling for applications from charities under its 2017 funding round. Visit greaterfoundation.org.au for details.
