Marking World Metastatic Breast Cancer Day earlier this week the McGrath Foundation announced the funding of a new nursing position, dedicated to patients with metastatic (secondary) breast cancer.
The position will be funded by Pfizer who have contributed $300,000 to the McGrath Foundation to fund this specialist position for three years. This new nurse position adds to the existing two metastatic McGrath Breast Care Nurses that are based in ACT and Western Australia. The location of the new McGrath Pfizer Breast Care Nurse will be announced in the coming months.
Petra Buchanan, CEO of the McGrath Foundation, said ‘Our recent research tells us that many more breast cancer nurses are needed in Australia and it is wonderful that Pfizer is able to support a dedicated Metastatic Breast Cancer Nurse. The needs for patients with metastatic disease are really quite different and the demand for this support is growing. Thank you Pfizer for recognising this need and being part of the solution in partnership with the McGrath Foundation.’
