This October, Mitre 10 and Home Hardware, part of Metcash’s Independent Hardware Group (IHG), raised over $340,000 for the McGrath Foundation, with 206 stores across Australia turning pink.
The stores embraced a variety of creative fundraisers, including trivia nights, BBQs, raffles, and morning teas, rallying local communities, customers, and suppliers to get involved. These efforts have made a significant impact on funding McGrath Breast Care Nurses who provide support to families experiencing breast cancer.
‘It just goes to show what we can achieve when we join together as a Village, State, and ultimately as a Nation.’
A standout story comes from Jo, an employee at Woolgoolga Mitre 10, who began fundraising in 2016 after her own breast cancer diagnosis. Inspired by Jane McGrath’s journey, Jo wanted to give back and help provide more McGrath Breast Care Nurses. Over the years, Jo’s fundraising grew from $1,500 annually to more than $25,000 last year, and this year, with over 200 Mitre 10 and Home Hardware stores involved, the total has surpassed $340,000.
Jo shared, “It just goes to show what we can achieve when we join together as a Village, State, and ultimately as a nation of Independent Hardware Stores.”
We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from IHG, and their communities. Your dedication helps fund more McGrath Breast Care Nurses and makes a real difference in the lives of families experiencing breast cancer. Thank you for your continued support and showing pink is the colour of care.
