City of Orange name change confirmed as April Fool’s Day gag to support the McGrath Foundation
Orange City Council has confirmed today’s announcement it was changing its name to Pink from October 1st 2019 was part of an April Fool’s Day stunt which saw Orange Mayor Cr Reg Kidd, local businesses and residents coming together to support people with breast cancer.
The stunt, part of a partnership between the McGrath Foundation and Orange City Council, is all in support of the organisation’s ‘Pink Up Your Town’ campaign in October which raises funds for specialist McGrath Breast Care Nurses.

“While changing our name was a bit of fun for April Fool’s Day, it’s all in support of the McGrath Foundation and the one in eight people who are diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 85”, says Cr Reg Kidd.
“I’m sure the community of Orange has enjoyed this gag and has taken it all in the right spirit for a very worthy cause,
“We’re encouraging businesses, schools, local clubs and landmarks to turn pink in October to support the campaign, Cr Kidd continued.
Pink Up Your Town is a major annual fundraising campaign for the McGrath Foundation and calls on volunteer committees to turn their town pink and create a visual show of support for people with breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
“We want to thank the people of Orange for helping us launch and support our important fundraising initiative,” says McGrath Foundation CEO, Holly Masters.
“Now in its second year more than 30 towns have taken part in Pink Up Your Town, helping to raise over $300,000 to fund specialist McGrath Breast Care Nurses for free wherever they’re needed across the country.
“Pink Up Your Town is a fun way to unite the local community and we’re calling on volunteer committees from every town across Australia to get behind Breast Cancer Awareness month,” Masters says.

By taking part in the Pink Up Your Town campaign, communities can come together to show their support for local families experiencing breast cancer and to raise funds to help place specialist McGrath Breast Care Nurses wherever they’re needed, all whilst putting their own town on the map,
“With 50 people diagnosed with breast cancer every day the need for more nurses is now greater than ever.
“Local champions, who nominate to lead volunteer committees in towns across the country, will receive plenty of support from the McGrath Foundation’s team to inspire their neighbours, businesses, schools and community groups to take on the fundraising challenge,” continues Masters.
