The Prime Minister today hosted a very special game of ‘backyard cricket’ on the lawns of Kirribilli House to celebrate the McGrath Foundation’s annual Pink Stumps Day fundraising campaign.
Junior cricketers from Bringelly Public School, Thornleigh Cricket Club and Quirindi Junior Cricket Association took to the lawns in social game of cricket, with some even facing a few balls from Glenn McGrath.
The afternoon also provided an opportunity to recognise the amazing efforts of some of the McGrath Foundation’s biggest supporters from across the country who were in attendance.
McGrath Foundation Co-Founder and President Glenn McGrath was thrilled that one of Australia’s most iconic locations would be holding a Pink Stumps Day for the first time.
‘Every year we see cricket fields from Perth to Puckapunyal turn pink as people bring the magic of the Pink Test home to their own community, but to see the Prime Minister hosting a Pink Stumps Day for the first time in a location as iconic as Kirribilli House is something really special.
‘The incredible support of the Federal Government along with the community of fundraisers, donors and corporate partners, is crucial in ensuring we can place nurses in communities across Australia to provide invaluable assistance to families experiencing breast cancer. It’s an honour to be able to say thank you to each of these groups in such an incredible setting today,’ he continued.
Pink Stumps Day is the McGrath Foundation’s largest community fundraising campaign where people across the nation turn their cricket game pink and fundraise in support of the McGrath Foundation.
The Pink Stumps Day at Kirribilli House was just one of more than 1,000 registered across the nation in 2018 with around 150,000 people expected to fundraise and take part. Every dollar raised will help the McGrath Foundation fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia.
McGrath Breast Care Nurses provide important emotional, physical and psychosocial support to families experiencing breast cancer, for free and without a referral ‘ no matter whether you’re in the private or public system.
While the official Pink Stumps Day is 17 February, communities can hold their own event at any time by registering at pinkstumpsday.com.au.
