As the winners of our Pink Stumps Day incentive, the Mudgeeraba Nerang & Districts Cricket Club had a very special guest on hand as they held their 13th Pink Stumps Day – McGrath Foundation President and co-founder Glenn McGrath.

The club took advantage of the former fast bowler’s presence at their annual event, auctioning off an over with Glenn for a whopping $3,000!

More than 200 guests attended the day, which included a special luncheon, raffles and auctions and of course cricket, and raised more than $38,500 to ensure that no one goes through cancer without the support of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse.

“The McGrath Foundation Pink Stumps Day is an integral part of the Mudgeeraba Nerang and Districts Cricket Club season ever year.”

“Our entire cricketing family pull together to raise awareness and funds for such a worthy cause" says Club President Matt Gill.

A cause that is close to the heart for organisers Kim Gill and Pam Munro. Pam’s sister Debbie passed away from cancer at age 47.

“Debbie was unfortunate to be diagnosed with two primary cancers, cervical and lung, which after 6 years had metastasised, and she could no longer bravely fight the fight,” says Pam. “With the McGrath Foundation’s expansion into providing care and support for all types of cancer, we can only smile and dream of how Debbie would have benefited and loved the support of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse.”

In Australia, 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

“We need more McGrath Cancer Care Nurses in communities across Australia,” adds Glenn, who encourages everyone to get together and turn their club pink in support. “That’s why Pink Stumps Day events like this one are so important, and we are so grateful to the Mudgeeraba Nerang and Districts Cricket Club, and everyone involved in organising the event for their incredible show of support.”
