The McGrath Foundation launches Fundraising Super Squad to inspire Aussies

The McGrath Foundation has unveiled the McGrath Foundation Fundraising Super Squad – a crack team of expert fundraisers formed to inspire Australia to raise funds this Breast Cancer Awareness Month (1-31 October).

Launching exactly 57 days out from the start of October, as an acknowledgement of the 57 Aussies who are diagnosed with breast cancer every day, the Fundraising Super Squad is fronted by Dancing With The Stars salsa-pro and singer-songwriter Samantha Jade and beloved weatherman and presenter, James Tobin, alongside the McGrath Foundation’s own Tracy Bevan.

Equipped with top fundraising tips and a cause close to their hearts, the Fundraising Super Squad is calling on Australians to register to host a fundraising event which demonstrates pink is the colour of care for the duration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Whether it’s a bake off, a comedy night, wearing pink every day in October, a cricket match, crafting in pink with your pals, hosting a pink clothing swap party, getting out for a fun run or a pink luncheon, the Fundraising Super Squad has the guidance you need to ensure your next event is easy to organise, simple to run and a fundraising success.

Super Fundraiser Samantha Jade, commented, “As someone who has personally felt the devastating impact of cancer, being part of this team to inspire fundraisers is a cause close to my heart. Every person going through treatment deserves access to a specialist nurse, and, alongside offering support for people, fundraisers are a way to make this a reality.

“I encourage Aussies to get passionate about pink and fundraise in their own special ways, whether it’s through ladies’ nights, fashion shows, or pink parties, let’s fill Breast Cancer Awareness Month with pink colour and support.”

One of Australia’s most familiar faces on breakfast TV, James Tobin, has also joined the Fundraising Super Squad, knowing better than most the impact a breast cancer diagnosis has on a family, having lost his mother to the disease in 2019.

“I know all too well what toll this diagnosis can have on a family, which is why I’m passionate about inspiring the nation to get out, get active, and get together to raise vital funds this October.

“The support a McGrath Breast Care Nurse can provide families from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment is invaluable, which is why we need to do all we can to ensure that no one going through breast cancer misses out on this kind of care,” James commented.

Breast cancer incidence in Australia is rising, with over 20,000 women and more than 200 men expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Along with improved survival rates and the increasingly complex treatment trajectory, the ongoing need for specialist breast care nurses continues to grow.

Every fundraising event hosted as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month will help to ensure that the 57 people in Australia who face a breast cancer diagnosis every day can access the care of a dedicated McGrath Breast Care Nurse, for free.

McGrath Foundation Ambassador and Director, Tracy Bevan concluded, “I am incredibly grateful to both Samantha Jade and James Tobin for joining me in the Fundraising Super Squad, offering their support and expertise for this important cause. Together we ask Aussies to get creative with their fundraising, so that we can continue to fund expert care for every single person impacted by breast cancer this year.

“Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off in 57 days, leaving you with plenty of time to plan a successful fundraiser. Our research shows that early access to a McGrath Breast Care Nurse significantly improves the experience and outcomes of a person with a diagnosis, let’s rally together, and show that pink truly is the colour of care.”
